Participants Profile

Siamnovas evolved out of the Immunology & Reproductive Physiology Research Unit (IRPR), Department of Animal Science, Faculty of Agriculture, at Chiang Mai University in northern Thailand. This research was managed by Assoc. Prof. Petai Pongpiachan. His team included Asst. Prof. Dr. Wiwat Pattanawong & Assoc. Prof. Dr. Korawan Sringarm who were both his graduate students. Plus, other graduate students who took part in research projects run by IRPR. Prof. Petai Pongpiachan and his colleagues invented the technology to bias the cattle-sexed ratio from 50% female to 80% female. Then he established a startup called “Siamnovas Co. Ltd.” in Chaing Mai, Thailand. Our business idea is to solve the pain point that cattle farmers need female calves because of their higher value than males. By nature, the sperm in the cattle semen determines the sex of the offspring. There are two kinds of bovine spermatozoa, sperm X determines female, and sperm Y determines male. We invented the process to reduce the number of sperm Y. By implementing the process, we can produce cattle-sexed semen that can bias the number of female calves from 50 to 80%.
